Finally!
A source for those necessary but hard-to-find sanding belts for polymer clay and other plastics: the Trizact belt that fits the flatbed belt sander I mention in my book “Polymer, the Chameleon Clay”.
$20 each, plus $6
shipping and handling, priority mail.
They last forever, and get finer and finer as they get broken in.
These are the belts I use on my belt sander, for major sanding and also for great even control: to create beautiful shapes, unusual and flowing curves, smooth edges, and the like.
I have the first one I ever bought, back in 1999, it’s become so fine that I can sand with this, for luscious refined sanding, and go right from this to the buffer. And I have a new sanding belt, effectively coarser, for getting in there and sanding larger areas down, getting edges straight, and getting areas thinner and consistent.
The belt sander itself comes from Woodtek.
I purchased mine at Woodworkers’ Supply.
But the belts for the original machine are for wood,
and much too abrasively coarse for polymer.
These are perfect, made for plastics.
If you have a belt sander, or have been around one,
you know it is the tool to have.
And this is the sanding belt to get.
